If your pet had a job, which one would suit them perfectly? 🐾

We know their habits. Their little quirks. Their obsessions.

And after living with them for a while, one thing becomes pretty obvious: our pets have some very real skills.

Admittedly… not all of them would look particularly impressive on a traditional résumé.

But just imagine for a moment that your dog, cat, rabbit or feathered companion had to choose a career.

Which job would suit them perfectly?

🐱 Cardboard Box Quality Inspector

A parcel has just arrived.

You haven’t even finished taking everything out before your cat is already inside the box.

Size inspection: approved.
Durability test: in progress.
Comfort assessment: thorough.
Immediate occupation of the premises: essential.

Never mind the lovely, soft bed you bought and placed right next to it.

The box must be tested.

It’s a matter of professionalism.

🐶 Security Guard

A car slows down outside the house?

They know.

Someone walks past the gate?

They know.

A neighbour closes a car door three houses away?

THEY KNOW.

Your dog may take neighbourhood security extremely seriously.

Of course, the alarm system can occasionally be triggered by a leaf, a bird, a distant noise or an event that only they have identified as highly suspicious.

But no security system is perfect.

🍽️ Food Service Manager

They know the schedule.

Every schedule.

Especially mealtime.

5:57 p.m.? Far too early.

5:59 p.m.?

They’re already there.

The food service manager also possesses a highly developed skill: convincing their human that the bowl is outrageously empty, even when there are still three pieces of kibble sitting at the bottom.

Some have even mastered an advanced technique: asking another member of the household for a second meal while strongly suggesting that, obviously, nobody has fed them yet.

A strategy almost worthy of a promotion.

💻 Remote Work Supervisor

Planning to get some work done?

So is your pet.

Unfortunately, their workstation happens to be exactly between you and your screen.

Or on your keyboard.

Or directly in front of your mouse.

They may also make an appearance during a video call, stroll across the screen at precisely the right moment or decide that your arm is now an excellent pillow.

Their mission seems clear: to remind you that your professional priorities are not necessarily theirs.

And that almost any meeting can probably wait until cuddle time is over.

🧦 Forbidden Object Inspector

A sock.

A tissue.

A wrapper.

A mysterious object discovered during a walk.

Some pets have an extraordinary ability to locate precisely the one thing they absolutely should not have in their mouth.

The inspector retrieves the object.

The human says:

“Drop it.”

The inspector refuses.

The human proposes a trade.

The inspector considers the offer.

Negotiations begin.

With enough experience, some become formidable treat negotiators.

🛋️ Professional Comfort Tester

Sofa: tested.

Bed: tested.

Freshly arranged blanket: tested.

Your jumper left on a chair for five seconds: tested.

Special pet bed purchased especially for them: pending further review.

Some pets take this responsibility very seriously and can spend several hours a day determining the most comfortable place in the house.

An area of expertise that apparently requires a great deal of napping.

But quality demands sacrifice.

🕵️ Human Movement Supervisor

You get up from the sofa.

They get up.

You walk into the kitchen.

They follow you into the kitchen.

You go to the bathroom.

They come too.

You return to the living room.

They return to the living room.

Maybe your pet isn’t clingy after all.

Perhaps they simply have a demanding job: official supervisor of all human movement.

No journey can go unmonitored.

Not even the one where you simply get up for a glass of water.

❤️ What if their greatest talent is simply knowing us?

Behind all these funny little habits lies something anyone who shares their life with an animal knows very well.

The longer we live together, the more we learn their quirks… and the more they learn ours.

They recognise the sound of the cupboard where the treats are kept.

They know our routines.

They notice our little rituals.

Sometimes they know we’re about to leave before we’ve even picked up our keys.

And we eventually learn exactly what that look means.

The one asking for something.

The one negotiating.

The one that suggests some mischief has just taken place.

Or simply the one that says they want to be close to us.

Perhaps their talents are far more numerous than we realise.

All they need now is a résumé.

And maybe a professional headshot.

🐾 The Prousty & Co Question

After this extremely serious assessment of our companions’ professional skills, one question remains:

If your pet had a job, which one would suit them perfectly?

Security guard?
Quality inspector?
Shopping bag inspector?
Professional sofa tester?
Morning alarm?
Snack manager?
Professional toy destroyer?

Or perhaps they already have a job that exists nowhere else… except in your home?

We have a feeling some of these résumés are going to be particularly impressive… 😄
